I’ve mentioned before that I’m not much of a breakfast eater. But it is so important to start your day off right with the right nutrients to get your body going. It’s always been a tough task for me – despite how much I enjoy food, breakfast isn’t one of my favourites. Unless of course it’s a lazy Sunday and you want to whip up some amazing and fluffy pancakes (Click here if you’d like to see my easy pancake recipe). But for the everyday routine – I started making this breakfast blueberry smoothie. It’s quick, easy to prepare, and so versatile. There are so many different ingredients you can add to your smoothie.
I love my smoothies simple and easy. I’ve been doing the same one for months and still haven’t gotten sick of it! But if you feel differently, there are tons of variations – you could easily make a different smoothie every day of the week. I’ll be slowly exploring some different variations and will share all my thoughts.
When you get into smoothie making, a good blender is essential. I think we went through 3 or 4 blenders breaking because of the frozen fruit and thickness of the smoothie before we found this KitchenAid Diamond Jar Blender that has been so fantastic. It stands up well to everyday (sometimes twice a day) use and blends a beautiful and smooth texture.
This recipe that I’m sharing is fast and only requires a few ingredients. Greek yogurt as your base is the perfect way to get protein into your breakfast. It also makes for a nice creamy texture. I also use unsweetened almond milk as the majority of the liquid. Great way to avoid dairy and soy. Always make a point of buying the unsweetened almond milk. It may not be something you’ll sit and have a glass of – but it doesn’t have the added sugar that the flavoured almond milks to. We want to avoid all the fake flavoured, pre-packaged foods if we want to be healthy. Add in some of your favourite berries – I tend to use frozen berries even throughout the summer. Only because it is way more cost effective as I’m making a smoothie every day. A few other ingredients round out my daily smoothie and it definitely keeps me going until lunch!

Fruity smoothie that's quick and easy to make - and perfect for a morning boost!
- 1 banana
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 4-5 frozen strawberries
- 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Combine all ingredients in blender and blend until completely smooth.
